Searching for Great artisan Galleries - where's the SeaGlass?
I have been on the road for several weeks for a combination of artistic and marketing pursuits! A trip to Maryland ended with my first visit to the American Craft Council Show in Baltimore. Wonderful, creative work, but no seaglass art work to be found. Good news or bad news? The fiber art really jumps out - just exquisite work to be seen and worn! A trip to Bethesda revealed the incredibly changed landscape for local galleries - more hip, less local, "young trendy" and certainly less interesting. Kudos to Waygoose for towing the line on artisan goods! During this trip, I also met my good friend Sharon & Hagos new son, and my godson, Negash. Could he be cuter!
I followed up with a trip to Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, and Naples, Florida. Miami is tough for finding artisan shops in the main Miami Beach area. Super chic - but not hand made, one of a kind. Probably need to work a bit harder here, revisit the Grove and Coral Gables. Seldom Seen Gallery in Ft. Lauderdale has a nice feel to it too. The trip from Miami to Naples included a stop at the Clyde Butcher photo gallery on Alligator Alley (Rte 41). Great take in!!
Naples was a pleasant surprise with many galleries and some of the most interesting gift items I've ever seen! In particular, Finials Foray was really FUN to see! Thanks to Kappa Sister, Denise (Smith) Mesnik for sharing her ideas of where to visit in my short trip.
